Arcade Games

A 5-Step Money Making Commercial Arcade Game Ideas (That Anyone Can Follow)

A 5-Step Money Making Commercial Arcade Game Ideas (That Anyone Can Follow) 1365 2048 GAD Vending

Arcades came in to fashion in the early 1900’s with the creation of the pinball machine. But it took until the 1970’s for video games to storm the scene. Since, there has been steady evolution of arcade games, crane games (claw games), video style games and pinball.

No longer are arcades limited to just their physical premise. With an internet connection, gamers can play their friends anywhere in the world. A player in Omaha can direct challenge their buddy in Kansas City. Join tournaments anywhere in the world. Play a local traveling tournament. And create accounts to follow the player from home to arcade.

With the wide variety of games and the connection to the internet, there is so much more to attract (and retain) customers for longer times.

Step 1 Cleanliness

Brought in with COVID, players want assurance of a clean environment to play. Make sure to clean your machines regularly during the day, have hand sanitizer stations and deep clean before opening. But be cautious with the type of cleaning chemicals you use – some chemicals can damage the graphics. Cleaning product manufacturer suggested guidelines are available through GAD.

Here are additional ideas you can use to ensure cleanliness:

  • Offer your players additional wipes for their own secondary sanitation.
  • Spread out your games for social distancing.
  • Check with your state or local health department for current guidelines.

Step 2 Location, Location, Location

Arcade machines make revenue in two ways. One, players paying to play. And, two, people staying longer to watch play and ordering more food/drinks in your establishment.

  • Choose high traffic locations that draw players over.
  • Add a game with lots of LED’s and great sound to a dark corner.
  • Capture your own “Shots of the Week” or “High Score” and promote across your TV’s through your AMI digital music system.
  • Choose games that others can watch game play from a safe distance.
  • Place games toward the back of the room to draw players further into your establishment. Make it convenient for people to stay longer.

Step 3 Consider a Table Games vs Console

When you review the floor plan for your arcade games, consider replacing a regular table with an arcade table. This creates a paying space in an awkward area.

  • Playing a console table – or not, it’s a table. (And, GAD’s newest Classic-Cade is over 60 games on one table.)
  • Consider adding a large table game like shuffleboard, or pool to utilize space toward the back of the room or fill an awkward space.
  • Add a foosball table in a space that you’d lose to social distancing regulations.

Do the math of one normal table vs. revenues from a game table. Patrons in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri tend to be active and like to play!

Step 4 Passive Income vs Active Income

Some business owners consider arcade games as a source of passive income. Or just an expensive way to entertain customers. And, that’s okay. But why not take an active approach to adding revenue and attracting repeat patrons?

  • Tournaments
    • Host a progressive tournament.
    • Golden Tee and G3 Galaxy Fire Electronic Darts run international tournaments online.
  • Leagues
  • Specials Night
  • Shot of the Week
  • Progressive Games
  • Trivia Games

Step 5 Take It Outside

Most bars and restaurants have maximized their outdoor space for eating and drinking. With social distancing, some had opened up parking lots, neighboring spaces and other creative additional spaces. And, you may be keeping these spaces open. How about adding games to those areas?

  • Basketball Shot Contest
  • Table Arcade Games
  • Foosball
  • Trivia Games through your AMI Jukebox System
  • Move your darts outdoors – adding wind could make it that much more challenging

As a business owner, it is essential to maximize floor space, follow health and safety guidelines and keep your patrons happy. Not an easy task but well worth the effort.

How To Add a Machine to Maximize High Traffic Areas

How To Add a Machine to Maximize High Traffic Areas 368 255 GAD Vending

Own a commercial facility? Bar? Restaurant? Mall? Retail Store? Arcade? High foot traffic area? Apartment complex? Office?

Looking to gain more automated cash flow without adding staff? Need something socially distancing that can be easily cleaned?

If you own or manage a space with lots of people passing through that you want to capture interest and revenue, read on……

It is expensive to get people to show up at your facility. You work at advertising, marketing, customer service, cleanliness, social distancing regulations, best product mix and everything else to get and retain customers. (Customer can be defined as – customer, tenant, employees, shoppers, staff, client – whoever it is that you want to engage.) So anything you can do to further engage – and profit from – your foot traffic is critical.

Add strategic machines to solve problems and create ROI!

ATM

A free standing ATM in a high traffic area can = profit!

  • You can charge a transaction fee.
  • You can reduce credit card fees by encouraging customers to pay in cash.
  • You can reduce employee time by allowing customers to self service for cash.
  • You can add additional revenue to other games, pinball or machines with cash access.

What should you consider? ATM’s generally cash flow in one or more of the following conditions:

  • 150 people through the doors daily,
  • when you are encouraging cash tips to staff,
  • you are looking to provide a service to your customer,
  • when it’s cheaper to have an unattended operation or unattended during off hours,
  • and/or when there are cash based services nearby.

CLAW/CRANE GAMES

Claw (Crane) games with non-ticket redemption (no tickets to mess with) is an ideal addition to a family based establishment. These are the cabinet games with stuffed animals with a movable claw that picks up a toy and delivers to the player.

  • Ideal for a restaurant waiting area where families gather.
  • Include in an apartment clubhouse that caters to families.
  • Add to an arcade, game room or family lounge area.
  • Stand alone machine in a pizza restaurant.

To maximize profit – keep you claw game maintained and well stocked. Keep your machine clean – not only by the restocking vendor but employees should clean between every patron. Post a hand sanitizer or wipes nearby.

GAD Vending sells and maintains claw machines in MO, KS, NE and IA. GAD Vending does not stock claw games but we can suggest companies that do.

DIGIAL MUSIC/JUKEBOX

No great party experience is complete without great music!

The new digital music jukeboxes have amazing capabilities that add to your user immersive experience – and can reduce expenses.

Digital music can be a new profit center:

  • Allow users to be the DJ and pay for their favorite tracks (and associated music videos) to play.
  • Run specials through your music software.
    • Promote specials
    • Tease holiday events
    • Pop Up specials
  • Sell advertising.
  • Appeals to all generations. The online music catalogs, along with associated video, is extensive.

Digital music software can reduce costs:

  • Bundles your trivia games into your software cost.
  • Replaces canned background music and can be programmed to change song selections thru the various day parts.
  • Supports karaoke.
  • Tracks your music play.
    • Music licensing companies assume you are playing music 100% of the time to 100% of your occupancy. Digital music tracks the exact songs played and creates a digital report so you pay on what you play.
  • Pre-programs available to eliminate DJ’s.

Digital music adds energy to unexpected places:

  • Add a digital jukebox to the front door of your retail store. Instead of elevator music, this adds the option to change music styles as you choose – or as your customers choose on their phone.
  • Add a digital jukebox in an employee lounge area. GAD Vending can program a free play option.
  • Add a digital jukebox to a restaurant/bar that changes from Baby Boomers to Millennial over the course of the evening.

Music to your ears? GAD Vending knows digital music and speaker installation.

VENDING MACHINES

Vending machines allow the owner to provide refreshment options without adding employees.

Try a mixed product vending machine – one machine offering drinks and snacks. A healthy option vending machine. Coffee vending machine. Or a simple bottle water vending machine. Whatever your customers are most looking for. This can free up employees to wait on customers with more complex needs.

Add vending machines in a high traffic area like by restrooms, lounge areas or break rooms. Anywhere customers or employees look to rest for a moment.

Add customer confidence! Use touchless payment – and even touchless ordering – using a smartphone app. This allows customers the cleanest, least touch options.

GAD Vending sells and repairs vending machines. Our warehouses have vending machines in stock with parts to configure a machine that best fits your needs. We have sales and service personnel in Kansas City, Omaha and Des Moines.

GOLDEN TEE PGA TOUR

Just like with a claw game for kids – Golden Tee PGA Tour is an ideal stand alone game machine.

Golden Tee PGA Tour is available in both commercial and home use versions. And, Golden Tee has a long established software upgrade schedule.

Add a single Golden Tee PGA Tour game to an entry way, low use/high visibility area.  Golden Tee PGA Tour is essential to an arcade, game room, pinball area. Add Golden Tee PGA Tour tournaments with their worldwide software support.

MONEY CHANGERS

Money changers are for customers that need to change bill-to-bill, bill-to-coin, pay stations and bill/coin counters. Add next to an ATM to give your customers self service capabilities.

Concerned about money changer and ATM security? Ask GAD Vending for security suggestions (we don’t publish security suggestions!)

If you have an unattended business like a car wash, coin operated laundry, or arcade, you need GAD Vending. GAD Vending inventories new money handling machines in our warehouses in Omaha, Des Moines and Kansas City. Our service techs also have parts to fix money changers.

Retro Raccoons Review

Retro Raccoons Review 947 875 GAD Vending

Arcade Heroes Review Excerpt:

Today we can get you up to speed on those improvements thanks to the information passed along to me by Adam Wray of Glitchbit. This enhanced build will better fit into arcade (non-bar) locations, with a broader appeal, while still working for those venues that serve adult beverages. These improvements came along thanks to feedback that was heard at that show (as a note to any indie devs out there – that’s a great reason to attend an industry trade show with your product, as you’ll talk with potential buyers and might find out why they will – or will not – purchase your game) along with feedback obtained through location testing.

Let’s start with the animated gif that was sent my way, then I’ll break it down in case you don’t catch it all:

Here are all of those features in a handy bullet point list of this new cabinet design:

  • Drinks mode (for bars)
  • Cash mode (for non-bar arcades)
  • Higher splash guard
  • New cash door & cash acceptor vault
  • Improved control panel design with new art & controls layout
  • Custom liquid tray
  • New Handles
  • Wheels
  • Leg levelers

With all of that, the cabinet is still going to be “under $5k” on the price point and begins mass manufacturing for arcades to pick up soon. A precise date hasn’t been given, but I would venture to guess that Retro Raccoons will be available before the summer is over.

If you have played the game already, what did you think about it? If not, what do you find appealing?

Bar Tournaments to Drive Bar Traffic

Bar Tournaments to Drive Bar Traffic 617 360 GAD Vending

COVID is brutal on getting consistent foot traffic. Taking aside the new protocols, here’s ideas (some new – some reinforcing) to better repeat traffic in your bar, restaurant or barcade.

TRIVIA

Trivia made easy with AMI digital music systems. The digital game master has lots of great games to choose from. Run on every screen in the house for easy social distancing.

AMI also helps you by running contests on to users. This encourages app usage for both gaming and music playing. You, as the owner, has lots of options what to charge for and what’s free.

TOURNAMENTS

Want to turn your slowest night into your busiest? Looking to attracting a competitive audience? Near a gym and want to capture the post-workout crowd? How about a tournament?

Darts are a good one to start with. The G3-Fire can be connected to the internet to create a league with even a few people to start. The G3-Fire is a brilliant red to brighten even the darkest corner.

Billiards – what more can we say? Pool is a favorite with lots of variations to tournament, team or individual play.

Golden Tee also has internet leagues, contests and other built in games. Or work to create your own league. The new Golden Tee PGA is just shipping now, so this is a brand new game for the Golden Tee fan.

Pinball games are getting in the action by adding new internet capabilities. You can run a tournament. Join Stern Army. But always, and we mean always, keep the high scores on the game!

Tournaments should have some type of prize. Check with your local jurisdiction as to what you can and can not award!

Tournament Play Control

If you aren’t using some of the preset internet leagues, try an app like Match Play to control your tournament. Players can enter their score, with you controlling the official approval. You choose the games from head-to-head, round robin, elimination, best score, ladder brackets…. This allows you to run tournaments over time. Change the type of tournament to entertain your audience. And – extend the contest so everyone who wants can participate.

If you want a simple, manual bracket game – try printing a large format bracket. Or use chalkboard paint on a wall and draw or paint a bracket.

Approachable

Think ahead to make the game approachable. Everyone likes to participate and win!

  • Grand “Prize”
  • Best Fan Club
  • Make it a team sport
  • Announce winners across your TV screens with AMI Ad Manager
  • Consolation prizes are always a hit – worse ball, best flipper, etc.
  • Prizes can be money, trophies, medals, gift cards, bar swag (free advertising!), or other prizes

Don’t Drag It Out – But Maybe You Can

Pay attention to how long your tournament will last. You don’t want people to get too bored and leave. Or a tournament you can’t finish within last call.

Think about your tournament running over multiple evenings or on a particular week day. Invite players back for a “best of” tournament – along with drink/food specials.

Run a triathlon of games. Every Tuesday is a different game that accumulates points. Darts, Pinball, Golden Tee, etc. Players have 4 weeks to complete each station to their best score.

Back to School: Game Night Can Save Your Sanity

Back to School: Game Night Can Save Your Sanity 2048 1365 GAD Vending

Spending more family time always sounded like a great idea – before COVID. Now, hopefully, all the kids are back (physically) in school. But as the novelty of school wears off again, its time to start Family Game Night.

Turn the TV off. Go to an arcade to play. Or add a game to your home. Either way, there are lots of games for all ages.

Going Out to an Arcade?

There are lots of ways to find the games you want to play. Google, of course. Call GAD – we can give you suggestions for games that are age appropriate. Stern Pinball has their own map of Stern Pinball game locations. Try Pinball Game Map or Pinside.

Break Up the Boredom and Up Your Game Night At Home

While board games can be fun, they generally don’t always engage the entire family. (Unless you set up an Olympic type marathon tournament that includes board games, pinball, darts, etc.) Why not find a set of games that match your family dynamic? Here are a few suggestions.

Table Classic-Cade

This is the perfect family game for all ages, genders and skill levels. With over 60 classic games, it offers hours of single play, one on one and team play fun.

Games include: Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, Mario Bros, Centipede, Galaga, Pong and so many more!

Pinball

A pinball game is a classic, family favorite.

Choose from titles like Hot Wheels, Ghostbusters and The Addams Family for younger audiences. Check out Stranger Things, Jurassic Park and Houdini for a junior high school + age audience. And, consider Metallica, Iron Maiden or Guns ‘N Roses for an older player.

For family favorites across all ages, check out Stern’s The Mandalorian, Guardians of the Galaxy, or Hot Wheels.

Ask us about connecting your Pinball game to the internet. Many of the newer games are internet friendly allowing for remote play against friends, family or internet tournaments!

Golden Tee

Golden Tee 2021 Home Edition is the worldwide hit bar game Golden Tee programmed for home play. With the internet, play tournaments, win best shot of the week or play against friends remote.

Golden Tee PGA is becoming the newest standard for Golden Tee lovers. If you are looking at a new game, the commercial version is available for home purchase.

Darts

Electronic darts has upped the game with electronic scoring and internet tournaments.

Our new favorite is the G3 Galaxy Fire:

  • Larger 24” Monitor
  • Automatic Target Flip
  • Live Remote Play
  • Remote Leagues
  • Glowing Cabinet
  • Made in the USA

GAD can help you figure out the best titles for the ages of your family, the size of your home game room and game selections in your budget. GAD provides quotes that are all inclusive, so you never have any surprises.

GAD Vending provides games to Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and South Dakota.
